When there aren’t a lot of distractions around you, it becomes much easier
to see the little details that you might miss in the course of a regular
day. We started our second week of the trip with a morning walk on Agate Beach in front of the hotel. The forecast was for sunny skies…just not
right now.
It actually was a great walk because everything had a hushed quality
about it and seemed very still with the misty marine layer. So instead of looking at the sun sparkling off
the ocean or the colors in the trees around the lighthouse, I looked at the undulating
curves created by the wind and tides across the sand. Soft, organic shapes with precision shaped
edges and curls.
But that wasn’t all…on closer examination, there were lovely structures
carved by the water leaving miniature sand towers and rippled landscapes. Today there were paired sets in some areas
and even whole collections in other parts of the beach. Some sand designs even gave clear indications of the wind direction that built them.
Tomorrow
there will be a whole new set of delicate objects with each one uniquely
created by nature based on the combination of wind and water … for that moment
in time.
Fascinating! I have never seen them around here/or noticed them before. Thanks.
