THE Trip - Day 32 (Possibilities)

Today was a short drive day…it’s one of those situations where we would either have a very long drive to Sunnyvale to see Kim and Will or break the distance into two parts for easy days for the driver.  The driver opted for the easy.  A wise decision since the temperatures were in the mid-80’s by 10 a.m. when we started and reached 100+ when we stopped south of Redding, CA.   A long drive without some breaks to walk around to stretch stiff muscles doesn’t work well for us any more…and at 100 degrees, I know I’m not at my best doing much walking.  I don’t melt; but I do melt down!!

The drive gave Dennis and I an opportunity to review the many places we have visited and really enjoyed over our month long journey.  Were there places where we could see ourselves moving to live?  Which of them would be on the re-visit list?   Having lived in other parts of the country, I am open to re-locating.  Dennis is California born and has roots down to the center of the earth’s core…so re-location is very low on his possibilities list.   However, as the Southern California environment becomes more densely populated, even he is open to “considering” the idea.

We talked about the merits of small town or big town; coastal vs. mountain; rain vs. snow; and wet vs. dry.  Some possibilities evolved.  Also, we did identify another driving loop that we need to do in Oregon to cover an area of the state that we missed along the Interstate 5 corridor from Ashland to Portland with a cross-section from Bend to the coast.  We saw some lovely areas in Oregon and visiting there again would be delightful.   But, the real truth came out….we are ready to be home.
