Today was to be a “free day”….a perfectly blank slate on which to rest,
relax, and recuperate before starting the final drive down Interstate 5 to once
again visit Kim in Sunnyvale and then, back home to reality.
The city of Ashland turned out to be the perfect place for that type of
day. As a small town with a college
(Southern Oregon Universtity) and a history of theater productions for over 75 years,
it has developed the support system necessary to entertain the approximately
400,000 visitors each year. There are
restaurants, coffee houses, funky shops, exquisite yarn shops, custom jewelry
stores, and other up-scale shops along the main street to window shop or visit. It has a robust creek running along the one
end of town to supply the perfect site for a long park with many walkways and
picnic areas. We wandered the entire
area for several hours enjoying lunch by the creek, walking off the food and
ale, then relaxing and people watching from the outside deck of the coffee
shop. A second play planned for the
evening to wrap the visit all up.
A good day…a restful and relaxing day.
