In planning for this trip, one of my biggest concerns was ‘how much
yarn to pack’. This may sound like a strange
item to have on one’s packing list…not quite like toothbrush or pajamas. But in my normal life whenever Dennis and I
drive somewhere over 10 minutes away, I take a knitting project to work on in
the car while he drives. Nice separation
of duties…plus if I am only half concentrating on the road, I am less likely to
‘backseat drive’….another plus to couples harmony.
So, (step one) I purchased some yarn for easy projects to work on
during the trip. Then, (step two) I
researched where yarn shops were located in some of the probable towns we would
pass through and thereby insure additional yarn supplies, if needed. With my contingency plan in place, I relaxed
on that issue --- all bases covered.
That was the plan. However, the
reality is turning out a little different.
I have been so mesmerized by the scenery and landscape that we are passing
through that I have hardly picked up the yarn and needles even though they are
in the front seat with me. All through
this trip, I have found myself trying to absorb everything I am seeing. Today, for example, the views were
spectacular as we drove along both the Oregon and Washington sides of the
Columbia River Gorge. Incredible scenery.

With all my energy focused on catching the sights along the journey, I
have to admit that it can be pretty mentally exhausting….but so, so rewarding.
If we consider my mental "insurance plan" being prepared with lots of yarn and projects was the best way to insure there would be such spectacular views to capture your attention!
ReplyDeleteGood point!!! I'd make a ton of money if I could just "package" the scenery and good weather together.
