Transitions and Changes

All my life, I have always been one of those people who are eager and excited for the little transitions and changes that come up routinely during the year.  As a youngster, one of my favorite times was the transition from summer to the start of the next school year.  It was filled with new crayons, pristine pencils, and fresh pads of paper.  The move from one calendar year to the next was also special as the pages of the wall calendar were blank and waiting for me to schedule events and reminder dates.

I must admit that not all of my excitement comes from the stationery supplies section of a store…no matter how enticing that area is to me.   For without fail on the Winter solstice, I love announcing to everyone within shouting distance that “It’s the shortest day of the year and tomorrow we will have more daylight”.  Most of these transitions and changes in my life flow smoothly from one moment to the next giving me the feeling of a certain steadiness and reliability about movement into the future.   However, there have been those rare times when I felt stuck in the current and not ready to make that transition.

Whether it was an unrecorded cosmic event like the slowing of the earth’s rotational movement or a mental dragging of my feet…it definitely took much longer this year to make the jump from 2012 to 2013.  And so, after feeling like I was stuck in glue for the month of January, I am now ready to declare that February is now the start of MY New Year for 2013.
